Our Story
Melloo was born from a simple, repeated frustration: groups of people at the end of a meal, fumbling with cash, doing mental arithmetic, waiting for a waiter who's already handling three other tables. It was slow, uncomfortable, and completely avoidable.
We built our first product for restaurants and hospitality in Kenya — bill splitting, EPOS integration, guest-facing payments. It worked. Restaurants saw tables turn faster. Guests left happier. Owners had fewer end-of-night reconciliation headaches.
But talking to those same business owners, we kept hearing a bigger problem: Kenya — and Africa broadly — lacks simple, reliable infrastructure for doing business online. Sending an invoice. Taking a deposit for a booking. Collecting payment for a service, subscription, or product. The tools exist in fragments. Nothing is joined up. Compliance is a maze.
That's the problem we're now building toward. Melloo is becoming the commerce layer for African business — starting where we know best, expanding into every transaction type that keeps a business running.

Payments are not a place to be clever. Every feature we ship has to be rock-solid before it ships. A product that works 99.9% of the time beats a product with 50 features that works 95% of the time.
